Stealing Personal Information

One's right to privacy is similar to his or her pride. Stealing personal information can go as far as breaking down an individual emotionally depending on what kinda of information is stolen and possibly distributed. Privacy is something most Americans value and for some, is all they have left. For a corporation to look into a person's personal information simply to market a product or service to them is unethical.

According to Debbie Cannon, digging into somebody's information from banks, courthouses or private surveys can benefit a marketer as well as a customer. In her opinion, marketing a credit card to a man in debt or a law firm to a woman with a speeding ticket helps companies and consumers. Eventually that man or woman will wonder how that marketing company managed to get such personal information. This, in my opinion, is a violation of that man and woman's privacy. Personal information such as debt or legal troubles absolutely should not be available for any marketing company regardless of a consumer's need for such services or products.
